Legal Advocacy

The Legal Advocacy Program is for low-income women (inclusive of transwomen) in the Downtown Eastside to obtain free legal advocacy in a safe and confidential, women’s only space.

The program is managed by lawyer Amber Prince, who was called to the bar on May 1, 2015. Amber began at Atira as a summer student in 2005 and worked for nine years as Atira’s legal advocate, from 2006-2015. She earned her law degree from the University of British Columbia and her Master’s in Law at the University of Victoria.

The Legal Advocacy Program exists because of generous funding from the Law Foundation of BC, and the BC Gaming Commission. We are also grateful for the assistance of volunteers, students, and pro bono lawyers who provide invaluable assistance to the Program.
